Pink and Blue

I made this Pink quilt back in July and I thought it was on the blog.... but it is now!

And here is the back showing the quilting...

Jackie (Charndon Quilting) and I spent the day sewing today and this is what I produced - I had to make a pieced back as I didn't have a large enough piece of fabric left - I'll show you that later when it is finished.

In progress....

Yesterday I went to a Sit and Sew day at Kirkheaton and have done this so far.... there is more to do as you can see, but not bad for 10.30 to 3.30..... with a little break for lunch and lots of breaks for coffee and a wander round to see what projects other people were doing. I am having another sewing day at my house next Sunday.....watch this space!!

Lovely Lutrador

The lutrador project is going well - I met my friend at Harrogate and she greeted me with apologies that she hadn't had time to do her lutrador piece.... so here is mine (it's normally me who doesn't get things done!!). Inspiration taken from a little book I bought at Birmingham about 1950s textiles.

Wedding

My DS went to a wedding the other week and I asked what he'd bought them - hmmm .... nothing!! So I thought they deserved a little something to mark the occasion....

I didn't realise there was a crease on the part where the name was until I took the photo - so I gave it a bit more of a press... and it looks better now. I shall upload another photo of that when the camera battery is recharged.

And here are a few photos showing the detail of the embroidery.... I do love feather stitch - can't imagine why it has been so long since I have done any embroidery. I am, however going to join the Embroiderer's Guild at their next meeting in Halifax at the beginning of October - so I may get some more embroidery done soon.

I knew it was a bad idea to take it to the pub to finish it off (knitting club!!) because I came back with orders for MORE!!

Bank Holiday Weekend

Here is my little weekend visitor.... well, actually she is staying for two weeks....

What normally happens is - I sew until I am tired then go to bed and nothing gets on the blog. So here is a new idea - I don't know how long it will last - but here goes..... I sew until 9.30 then make a coffee, photograph everything I have done then upload the photos and blog then go back to making things until bedtime.

Jackie of Charndon Quilting had the idea that we should finish off everything we have made at workshops. Last July we went to a Philppa Naylor masterclass and started various small projects to teach certain techniques. We did curved piecing! Here is the mini wall hanging I made to complete the project. It has curved piecing, curved piping and curved binding. I have some little African beads that I can sew on - but for now here is the mini wallhanging....
Here are a few close-up photos showing the quilting....

Jackie also had an idea to make a 6 inch square using Lutrador - I have painted some - some I painted with Acrylic paint and some I painted with fabric paint....

here they are drying....

On the same week in July last year Philippa taught us trapunto and here is the sample....

I decided to make this into a 'quilt as you go' quilt in pink and green and cut out lots of pink and green strips .........

and started sewing some random roses.....

Here is a bit of an idea of how the quilt will look when I have completed all the roses...

What was my inspiration? Thanks to Marks and Spencers loo roll......

In amongst all this I made a little quilt top for a friend. When the backing is dry I will quilt it and finish it off.....

So...sew....back to the sewing machine.....

Quilting Retreat

I went to a quilting retreat at Cober Hill in March and started and finished (apart from the quilting) a mystery quilt.

For some reason the photos aren't uploading today... will add photo another day...

And today (7 May 2010) is the day that my photos seem to be working again.... Jackie (Charndon Quilting blog) gave me the pattern page by page and I started cutting out my fabric on the first day of the quilting retreat and started s ewing all the pieces together and at the end of the four days I had a quilt top finished and pinned together (thanks for the pins - Jackie) and I started quilting..... will post photos of the quilting later.....

Crumbs it's almost a quilt!

It was suggested to me that I should try crumb quilts and after a look on the internet, found several sites of interest and started sewing. So far this is what I have made - with a bit of a border it could well be a cot quilt. I shall take it with me on my next fabric buying trip and find something to coordinate. As, believe it or not, I have nothing in my stash that is suitable.

And here is a close up of the tiny pieces, some were only an inch square.
